You will always need a social security number and to be a valid United States Citizen. If you are applying for money specifically for a parent raising children alone, you better fit that mold. Most time you will need to have graduated from high school or have passed the GED test. If you are applying for tuition assistance you need to have been accepted and perhaps even enrolled at a university. Some funds are specifically for people in certain careers, religions, or of certain ethnicities. Make sure you read all the details before applying. Lying on any application is considered fraud.
